Airservices is a government-owned corporation providing safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible services to the aviation industry. We manage air traffic operations for around 75 million passengers on more than three million flights every year.

Brisbane Airport

Brisbane Airport is situated at the mouth of the Brisbane River adjacent to the seaport.

Hours of operation/curfews

Brisbane Airport operates 24 hours per day. There is no curfew at Brisbane Airport, however, noise abatement procedures are used to reduce the impact of aircraft operations on residential areas, especially at night (10pm – 6am).

Runway configuration

Brisbane Airport has two runways: 01/19 (3500 metres) and 14/32 (1700 metres). Category 1 instrument landing system is installed on runways 01 and 19. The Airport Master Plan provides for a 3600 metre runway to be built parallel to Runway 01/19.

Traffic

During 2010 Brisbane Airport averaged 515 movements per day. Eighteen international airlines operate through Brisbane Airport, but the majority of the traffic consists of medium jets and turbo-props.

Noise and Flight Path Monitoring

Noise Monitoring Terminals are located at Cannon Hill, Tingalpa, Nudgee Beach, Kedron and Bulimba. The noise data collected is linked to flight path data and both are stored in Airservices Australia’s Noise and Flight Path Monitoring System (NFPMS). Airservices publishes NFPMS reports on the data collected by the NFPMS on its website on a quarterly basis.

Future noise issues

Planning of a second parallel runway started more than 20 years ago and the footprint for it has appeared in Brisbane street directories for at least six years. The new runway will be located two kilometres west of and parallel to the existing main runway (01/19). The new parallel runway is expected to be operational at the end of 2015 at the earliest.
