Melbourne Airport
Melbourne Airport is located about 20 kilometres north west of the Melbourne CBD.
Hours of operation/curfew
There are no curfews at Melbourne airport. However, noise abatement procedures apply. Aircraft must normally be routed to avoid over-flight of Bulla, Sunbury, Craigieburn, Keilor, Sydenham, St Albans, Greenvale, Meadow Heights and any other area notified by local instruction.
If overflight is unavoidable, such as when an aircraft is complying with a published procedure or due to traffic separation requirements, the minimum height over these areas is:
- Jet aircraft – not below 5000 feet above ground level
- Propeller driven aircraft – not below 3000 feet above ground level.
Runway configuration
Melbourne has two runways: 16/34 (3657 metres) and 09/27 (2286 metres). Runways 16 and 27 are served by Category 1 instrument landing system approaches, and non-precision approaches are available to all runways.
Traffic
The airport manages around 200,000 aircraft movements a year. Runway configurations allow up to 65 movements per hour.
Noise and Flight Path Monitoring
Noise Monitoring Terminals are located at Bulla, Keilor East, Essendon, Thomastown, Coolaroo, Keilor Village, and Diggers Rest.
