As an air traffic controller at Airservices you will have the opportunity to develop personally and professionally in a highly satisfying and unique career.
Selection criteria
To be eligible for training, applicants are required to meet the mandatory criteria at the time of submitting their application. Applicants are required to:
- be a minimum of 18 years of age
- be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia
- have completed Year 12 with passes in English, Maths and Science [preferably Physics] or hold a tertiary education qualification or a Commercial or Private Pilot Licence.
Does Airservices consider applicants with prior experience?
Yes, candidates with prior air traffic control experience will be considered independently from the ab initio applicant pool for placement on short course training or direct entry.
The selection process for ab initio candidates
While every effort is made to keep the selection process as short as possible, there may be some delay between each step.
- Online application form
- Online cognitive ability assessments and situational questionnaire
- Telephone interview
- ATC assessment centre day incorporating a behavioural interview, briefing exercise, group exercise, simulation and computer-based assessments
- Referee comments
- Pre-employment medical and security checks
What training is provided?
Training is conducted at Airservices Learning Academy in Melbourne. Trainees undertake training for approximately 12 months at the Academy, followed by practical field training at their final location. Airservices meets all training costs.
Salary (as at September 2011)
All controller benefit from an attractive salary package and generous employment conditions. Experienced controllers are paid consistent with their level of experience.
