From 1 December 2012, Airservices will be removing the use of Telstra PhoneAway cards for pilot briefings.
This will coincide with the expiry of existing Telstra PhoneAway cards, on 30 November 2012. Users will still be able to access the same phone number, 1800 805 150, after this date for pilot briefings, with no additional cost to the user.
You will need to use all existing credit prior to this date as there is no refund or funds transfer available on the Telstra PhoneAway card. The PhoneAway card can be used to make local, national, international and mobile calls prior to expiration.
The current ‘menu’ services provided through the PhoneAway Card will remain in place:
- Flight Notification
- Personal Briefing
- Fax Flight Notification
Why is Airservices removing the PhoneAway card?
Airservices is introducing the change following a decrease in the use of the Telstra PhoneAway cards, and a proposed increase in call costs from Telstra. Airservices will now provide pilot briefing at no additional cost to the user.
When will the PhoneAway card service cease?
PhoneAway cards will not be able to be used following the expiry date of 30 November 2012. Those with a PhoneAway card will need to use all existing credit by this date. There is no refund or funds transfer available on the PhoneAway card, however, it can be used to make local, national, international and mobile calls until 30 November 2012.
What is it going to cost me when the cards are removed?
From 1 December 2012 pilot briefings will be available on the 1800 805 150 number using the current menu system or by phoning 07 3866 3517 to speak to a Briefing Officer. Airservices will absorb all costs associated with the 1800 805 150 number from 1 December 2012.
You will no longer be required to purchase the PhoneAway card and will always have access to the 1800 805 150 number.
Why is Airservices implementing this change now?
There has been a steady decline in the use and purchase of the PhoneAway cards over the last few years. Additionally, the great majority of users contacting the briefing office do so direct. The removal of the Telstra PhoneAway cards will enable Airservices to deliver a cost saving to industry.
I haven’t used up all of my credit, can I get a refund?
There is no refund available on the PhoneAway card, however, it can be used to make local, national, international and mobile calls until 30 November 2012.
What if I need credit before the free service commences on 1 December 2012?
You can purchase a card over the phone for $10 which can be used immediately. Alternatively, you can direct dial 07 3866 3517.
