Airservices is a government-owned corporation providing safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible services to the aviation industry. We manage air traffic operations for around 75 million passengers on more than three million flights every year.

National towers program

Airservices provides air traffic control services from 28 control towers across Australia, many of which were constructed between 1941 and 1995. A number of these have now exceeded their design life, contain equipment no longer supported by suppliers and require modernisation to bring them in line with current industry standards.

Airservices is currently replacing a number of these towers and upgrading or refurbishing others.

Construction on new facilities is currently underway in:

New towers – Stage 1

Airservices has begun construction on new towers in Melbourne, Adelaide and Rockhampton and a combined fire station and air traffic control tower in Broome.

The project involves the design and construction of new towers and the demolition of redundant facilities. The project will also introduce a blueprint for a nationwide program centred on a standardised approach to tower construction and fit out. The towers will be designed with a minimum building lifespan of 20 years.

The project will also deliver infrastructure capable of accommodating the new tower technology.
