New towers Stage 1 – Melbourne
Melbourne Airport’s air traffic control tower is the first major new tower to be commissioned by Airservices since Sydney Airport’s current structure was opened in 1996.
Construction on the new tower began in March 2010. The tower is expected to open in late 2012 and will replace the existing tower which dates back to the opening of the airport. The design will provide flexibility to enable future technology enhancement and replacement without substantial modification to facilities.
